Two interesting notes
Two interesting notes were auctioned in Wellington on friday November 12th. Images are in the forum section and gallery. The first note was a Union Bank £1 of 1st January 1869 (second issue). Lot 91. Estimated at NZ$7,000 it sold for NZ$17,500 + 12.5% commission = $19687.50 + GST if it went to a NZ buyer.

The second note was a Lefeaux 10/- Z 000007 Lot 94. Estimated at NZ$180 it sold for NZ$2,600 (= $2925 + GST). This note was probably a Presentation note given to a VIP in 1934. The note Z 000001 is also in collectors hands, selling in 2002 in Sydney.

The New Zealand Banknote Catalogue section
The New Zealand Banknote Catalogue section (Timeline) has appeared on the site. It is still under construction but is basically functioning. I will insert information and images asap. The pre-decimal section and first series decimal notes are the only parts functioning so far. You can only access the decimal series (at this stage) by going to any predecimal note page and use the link there to the main 'menu' which has the decimal links. Note that when you click on an individual 'prefix' in each page a new window should open up, showing an image of a note with that prefix. Eventually all these windows will include images of the relevant prefix. If you open one and it has no image, then send us one to insert. Registered members can insert their own notations on each 'page' that only they can see when logged on. Other members will only see their own notations.

Please read the 'Introduction' section of this site for more information.

Hope you enjoy this new feature, and please let us know what you actually think of it. Feedback can only help improve the site!

Introduction Updates
Please read the newly updated 'Introduction'. It now contains a few instructions on how to get the most out of this site and also what to look out for in the future. The 'Timeline' section will show every issue from 1934 to date, once it is up and running.

2004 Bollard $5
The print run for the 2004 (04) Bollard $5 note recently released can now be confirmed as being AA/DA 100001 to 370000. A total of 270,000 sheets printed. This equates to 10,800,000 notes, (270,000 x 40) including any misprints not supplied to the RBNZ. I assume that the order would have been for ten million notes. Note that the print run started at 100001 rather than the expected 000001.

Thus the only notes that will exist with numbers under 100001 will be the 1,000 notes specially printed for the 2004 same numbered sets (and any other special issues, if any are produced) These would have prefix AA 04 only.

The previous issue ended at 056500 so there are no Bollard $5 notes at all numbered between 056501 and 100000. It will be interesting to see where the next issue Bollard $5 will start. Will it be at 400001 or will it revert to 000001.

And will the same anomaly also appear with other denominations when printed.

Numismatic Market
Numismatic Market has been updated where you can offer your spare notes for sale at a fixed price. There is no fee involved as this site will not be involved with the sale. You will just be able to use our server to show your wares. Once again, it will only work if some of you place items on the page for sale. (and someone buys it)

New Website
Welcome to our new site on New Zealand currency. Whilst browsing around, please click on the various arrows and flashing objects. Stuff happens (if you've signed in)and you can discover all sorts of pages on this site. Just below here is an 'arrowhead' that will take you to the news archives from the old site. The flashing 'arrow' will take you to the forum. Ask a question about banknotes. Someone might answer! Click the flashing 'house' below your login name and see you own part of the site. Stick some images up in the gallery. Show off your good notes. Just click the black box (upload image) on the individual gallery sections and follow the prompts. When you are looking at an image in the gallery, right click it for sizing options. Jeff has all sorts of tricky things set up. Enjoy!
